getting familiar

so friday we woke up freezing, went for a jog to get warm (which didn't really work) and then we showered, ate breakfast, and headed out to the grocery store. it was about a 10 minute walk but very easy to get to. we were shocked to find that the prices in the grocery were fairly comparable to us groceries. we used a hand basket and decided that once it got to full, we were done shopping. after getting the essentials and heading back to our house for a sandwich, we set out to conquer uk cell phones and find a power cord for our external hard drive. it has been pretty nice here during the day - in the sunshine, we are very comfortable...and thankfully, it has been very sunny. we got the scoop on unregulated cell phones and pay-as-you-go plans for those of us that have no credit history in a foreign land. then we ventured into old town where we stumbled upon a place called (not joking) pound savers where we found a power cord and got to see the score of the italy/romania game underway. when a match is on, there isn't a single establishment that isn't tuned in. :) as we were making our way back home last night, we came across what appeared to be a large screen showing some sort of movie. there were tons of people sitting outside, wrapped up in blankets, watching. apparently it is the kick-off to the annual edinburgh internation film festival and this weekend is the film festival under the stars. they show old film festival favorites (last night was ET) in the court of the national gallery. we are planning to go see 'back to the future' tonight! we might have to wear a lot of clothing. when we got home, we made stir fry and watched the netherlands spank france on one of our three tv channels. oh! also, yesterday the official catalog for the edinburgh fringe festival came out - so we are gearing up for august and have been skimming the pages to see what the fuss is all about...you can see all the stuff at this website: edfringe.com
all in all, a great first day. i took a few picture of our flat and our errands adventure. go here to see!
