blast from the past!

i received an unexpected email from my wonderful old friend carrie howerton telling me she'd be in edinburgh for the festival with her boyfriend, jack, who was performing in the fringe.   talk about a blast from the past!  we were the best of childhood friends (read: nerdy girl scout vests and all things elementary school, middle school, and high school) and i hadn't seen her in years so we had lots of catching up to do.  dustin and i were very excited to spend the weekend with them and had plans to meet them on the saturday.  on my lunch break the friday before they were expected to arrive, i was nipping down to a shop, on a street i had never been down, to grab a juice for my lunch.  i swore i saw carrie but figured i was just hallucinating, so i sort of yelled out her name to see if she'd respond.  sure enough, she and jack just happened to be on the same street as me just moments after they had arrived in the city!  turns out, they thought they had seen me too - as i was on my way into the shop - and they snapped a photo just in case.  (their photo is below.)  cosmic!  it was great to catch up with them over the august festival - they were in edinburgh for two weeks so we enjoyed many pints together and carrie and i had lunch as well.  we really enjoyed jack's show and look forward to hopefully seeing him perform again in nyc where they live.  it never ceases to amaze me how old friends can always pick up right where they left off.  :)
